Anybody know where / how to find one of these at auction? I’d heard that USPS was going to have them all rebuilt, then heard they’d put out a bid to come up with something new.

If they’re anything like UPS, pray they don’t scrap all of them.

I don’t think they’ve even put it out for proposals yet. Since this is government acquisition we’re talking about, don’t expect to start seeing the LLV’s replacement for a while.

We need a spec LLV racing series, and we need it now. Not tomorrow, not after breakfast, now.

Canada Post up here in the North still has a few of these on the go, but a lot of them have been replaced with first-gen (North American) Ford Transit Connects.
Double Post below, sorry, I got Kinja’d! :(

There used to be, now a days you’d be finding the parts on ebay and at swap meets. there were aluminum 2 barrel intakes, they used these things in RVs if you can imagine and those cams gave a big boost, then there were the old hot rod tricks of porting and polishing, custom headers etc. I heard stories of 200 hp out of an Iron Duke

Fun fact: there’s a 1979 CJ-7 on a gov’t surplus site RIGHT NOW for $3,000. Yep, $3k.

I also want one. I would swap a camaro turbo 4 and some kind of 4wd swap maybe canyon/colorado strip off the paint and polish it and get all the ladies.
Or just do fridolin styling.

I was also thinking about a 4.3 Vortec with a turbocharger, but buying a donor Camaro might be the easiest.

Apparently you can find them. Just hard to find current auctions.
You could also check with the local post office. They may hold yearly auctions for getting rid of old equipment.

My driving instructor yesterday worked as a mechanic for the usps and maintained a fleet of 1800 trucks. He said they are terrible and useless. He says after the last on was made the company went out of business because of how unreliable and cheap they were.

There’s a great comment in this string from a postal carrier who says about the same. Can’t say I feel much dissuaded, however. If I’m able to do half of what I’d like to do to one of those buggies, it won’t be much of what it started out as.

. Either a smallblock Chevy V8 or a 4.3L V6 with a turbo. Probably the former for less complexity.
